Lebanon’s Tripoli Port: The Golden Sponsor of East Med Maritime Conference 2019

Tamer said that being the Golden Sponsor of East Med Maritime Conference 2019 is set to reinforce the port’s role in Lebanese shipping and maritime industry, as it is the most suitable platform to promote the port’s expansion plans, in the light of projects underway.
This announcement comes after major turnovers took place at the port this year. It has been a busy year for Port of Tripoli, where it has recently received the Islamic Development Bank’s (IDB) approval for a loan to complete the logistic and infrastructure requirements. The project which is set to start during the first quarter of 2019, will assist in transferring the port into a smart port.
In addition, Port of Tripoli and Chinese maritime transport company COSCO agreed to open a maritime line between China and the port for regular export of Chinese products, set to start working on December 24, 2018. PoT is expected to receive six cranes from China at the beginning of the 2019.
Dr. Tamer said that shipping lines came after maritime shipping company CMA CGM opened its shipping line between China and the port last October. Other shipping lines shall join PoT during the 2019.
He added: “We want to compete with other ports. Price is one of three factors we have taken into consideration. The other two factors include service and specialization.”
